Synopsis: (Note: Filmed in Thonotosassa, Florida and the director/filmmaker is a USF graduate student in the Humanities and Cultural Studies department.) My aim is to take the documentary trope of the stimulus-response interview and let chance (embraced by traditional 1920s avant-garde) restructure the stimuli and responses to assess the impact this randomization has in the minds of spectators. While initially confusing, randomization allows spectators the opportunity to form new connections between clips (similar to the effect of Sergei Eisenstein's juxtapositions from Soviet Montage theory) that would not have formed otherwise. For this film, a computerized random sequence generator determined the order of 12 stimulus clips from the 1960 "Harvest of Shame" CBS TV documentary, which investigated the poverty and atrocious living conditions of Florida's migrant workers, and 12 responses from Mr. Ernest Kennedy, a voice of authority, who spent two summers doing farm work in 1952 and 1953. Also, this film follows the restart format of Bruce Conner's classic 1958 experimental film, "A Movie."
